| Walking:
Short or long walks from our garden gate through the Chiltern
beechwoods. Endless drifts of bluebells in early May, cool shade
on hot summer days or myriad autumnal leaves. The Thames Path,
Icknield Way and the Ridgeway are all a short drive away.
Towns to visit:
Locally, well worth a visit are the picturesque market towns of
Henley-on-Thames and Wallingford. In addition the numerous small
villages which dot the River Thames as it winds its way around
the foot of the Chilterns. Within half an hour’s drive are
the ‘dreaming spires’ of Oxford, Windsor and the Castle,
part of which has been magnificently restored following the fire
in 1992, and not to be missed.
Places of Interest: Nearby
Pangbourne is the site of the Child Beale Wildlife Park. Local
stately homes include Basildon Park, Stonor Park and Greys Court.
Waddesdon Manor makes a good day trip whilst if you are interested
in antiques then Dorchester-on-Thames with its many antique shops
and Abbey would be well worth the short drive.
Gardens: There are
many fine gardens close at hand. Oxford Colleges and Botanical
Gardens, The Harcourt Arboretum at Nuneham Courtenay, Waterperry,
Blenheim, West Green House, Frogmore, Saville and Valley gardens,
Wisley, Stonor Park, Greys Court, Cliveden, Wyld Court Rain Forest,
The Herb Farm, Stubbings Nursery and Newington Nursery. Also,
on most Sunday afternoons, during the summer local gardens will
be open under The National Gardens Scheme.
Shopping: The choice
of shops is endless and we will be happy to point you in the right
direction for your specific requirements. |

Theatres
and cinemas: Modern cinemas showing all the latest films
are within easy reach in Reading, Henley and High Wycombe and
excellent theatres can be found in Oxford, Sonning-on-Thames.
High Wycombe, Reading and Windsor. London and Stratford-upon-Avon
are within easy reach.
Museums: Henley
has the award winning River & Rowing Museum, Oxford boasts
the world famous Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers museums, which are
well worth seeing.
Riding: If you would
like to bring your horse and explore the many bridle paths, then
a stable or field grazing can be made available. There is also
an Equestrian Centre in the village.
Sports and exercise: Apart
from walking, rowing boats, punts and motor boats can be hired
in Henley and Oxford. If golf is your sport then there are at
least nine courses within a seven mile radius of Larchdown Farm.
Transport: We are
close to excellent coach routes to London and the airport bus
service from Heathrow and Gatwick. Reading Station is 7 miles
away with frequent high-speed (25 minutes) trains to London Paddington.
Eating out: The
choice is yours! From small local pubs serving the very best of
home cooking, to first class restaurants, Indian, Chinese, Italian
and French ... all just a short drive away. |
